Teens, they're like mini-adults with poor impulse control. Talk to 'em like they're adults while subtly guiding them towards better choices, and they'll listen to you.
I've got sons of my own, and they're even about his age. I talked to him like I would talk to them, if I thought one of them was hiding something from me.
Kids like that...they do want to be treated like adults. But they also want reassurance sometimes too.
I spent a fair bit of time babysittin' my boss' kid, but I guess that's the sorta skill ya don't pick up unless they're properly yours, huh? [He's in awe of the dad skills.]
What's this 'properly' stuff? Blood relatives? Because I can tell you right now: blood doesn't make the family. Caring for each other, that's what counts.
But I guess raising those kids as my sons did give me an advantage, yeah. I've had plenty of time to learn how kids act.
